Our goals are to provide shelter to homeless single women and women with children. To provide for short term offsite sleeping hour accommodations for men experiencing homelessness. To assist individuals and families who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless by providing resource education and assistance with obtaining needed services offered by other agencies. To foster cooperative relationships with other agencies in the community that will expand and sustain the delivery of needed social services.To raise public awareness of the existence of homelessness and extreme poverty in our community.

Provides healthcare services to families in Putnam and Owen Counties. Performs comprehensive primary healthcare services to children up to the age of 24. Family Planning services available; the Women, Infants, Children’s Supplemental Food Program (WIC) provides nutritious foods and nutrition education to pregnant and postpartum women, infants and children to the age of 5. Offers a free pregnancy-testing program, free immunizations and help with the reduction of smoking for anyone in the community.

MHAPC is dedicated to promoting community wide mental health and improving the quality of life of those impacted by mental illness through advocacy, education, collaboration, support services and prevention activities. In 1996, Dolly Parton launched Imagination Library, to benefit the children of her home county in East Tennessee. Dolly’s vision was to foster a love of reading among her county’s preschool children and their families by providing them with a free, specially selected book each month. Dolly’s Imagination Library became so popular that in 2000 she announced that she would make the program available for replication to any community that was willing to partner with her to support it locally.

Prevents delinquency by re-directing vulnerable children and youth toward productive behavior and away from entering the juvenile justice system. Provides information and referral by maintaining a wide spectrum of resources on the needs of and service for children and families. Provides community education by increasing the understanding of the significance of delinquency and its causes and remedies so our community can create and sustain effective alternatives. Provides advocacy to children who have substantiated abuse or neglect.

Provides intensive, low-cost reading instruction to Putnam County children and adults. Tutoring at Gobin offers reading help after school to students in grades 1-8. An after-school program with individual and small group help twice a week from trained DePauw tutors. The program meets during the DePauw academic year from 3:00-5:00PM Monday-Thursday at Gobin Memorial United Methodist Church.
